Tamarind Whiskey Sour Drink Recipe
Drink Recipe: Tamarind Whiskey is one the most popular sours that is consumed in cocktails today. With this drink. And a big side of Papaya. Anybody who has tried them will tell you that it’s great. Everything there, from the aroma, tang, and sweetness, has a huge flavor explosion. It starts with tamarind powder which is a very sweet and salty combination.
This powder gives the drink its flavor. Then comes the whiskey, which is straight rye or that. You can’t make this alcoholic unless it contains rye. The other ingredients are the tamarind paste and the agua. The agua is what gives its flavor.
When using Tamarind, it’s best to make the cocktail at home. Use a double shot of whiskey. If you don’t have any, then try using triple. The reason being goes well with just about any other whiskey besides just Irish whiskey. If using straight whiskey, simply add a little more whiskey. I like to use James Bond’s favorite to mix with it – white wine.
To make the drink, simply add the whiskey, the tamarind paste, and lime. Stir and strain into a container. Next, add a small shot of lime juice and a bit of sugar. Stir until the sugar dissolves. Finally, pour over ice and serve.
It is my favorite simple drink with a slice of lime in it. I simply add one ounce of whiskey to a glass of ice and add the sliced lime. If serving it over ice you should take caution not to add too much ice because it may melt and give you a funny taste. Then add a small amount of sugar or honey to enhance the sweetness of the drink. The last tip I have for you regarding the use of Tamarind in making great cocktails. One of the most popular uses of Tamarind is in the drink recipe called “AGua sorbetto”. In this drink you will be using a tamarind pod to add a sweet flavor to the mix. To make this drink simply add three quarters of a cup of vodka, a cup of shaved green agua (machete) root, and two tablespoons of dried red leaves. Stir until the agua has dissolved completely in the vodka. This cocktail can be enjoyed over ice or at room temperature.
This was just one of the many drinks I enjoyed over the years. For those interested in making their own Tamarind Sour, it isn’t that difficult. To make this drink, simply combine three-quarters of a cup of distilled water with one-half of a cup of fresh lime juice. Once you have made this mixture add one ounce of whiskey and one-quarter ounce of fresh lime juice. Next add a few dashes of lemon juice to the mix. You can now serve this cocktail at any time and not have to worry about it being cold.
Tamarind Whiskey Sour
1 1/2 ounces bourbon
1 ounce fresh lime juice
1 tablespoon tamarind paste mixed with 1 tablespoon hot water and cooled
1/2 ounce simple syrup
Shake all ingredients with ice and pour over fresh ice (crushed or cubed, your choice). Garnish with whatever fruit you have handy.
