Bloody Mary

Bloody Mary

Bloody Mary: It is nearly New Year’s Day, 2022. If you’re reading this, no nuclear bombs went off at the stroke of midnight, and we have survived and thrived in an otherwise horrible year. Time to recover from our sequestered New Year’s Eve festivities through the marketing-sponsored phenomenon known as National Bloody Mary Day.

Traditionally, a Bloody Mary is served with booze, but if you’re not a big fan of alcohol, try tequila or gin in place of alcohol. If you want something that’s a little more restrained, you could instead have tequila or gin with some Grand Marnier or brandy. You can leave out the alcohol entirely for a nice Virgin Mary. For example, instead of mixing the whiskey with the juice, you could just replace the brandy with a simple syrup. Other great drinks for brunch are green olives with a shot of Grand Marnier, fresh strawberries topped with a dill pickle, and a squeeze of lemon juice over ice.

Bloody Mary

Another popular cocktail made with the classic Bloody Mary is the Martini. While it started out using Vodka and triple sec, Martini quickly found itself falling in love with the classic flavor of the classic Manhattan, making a substitution for the vodka for cream soda and replacing the dry Martini glassware with foam-molded glasses. To make the Martini more interesting, I’ve even included a stuffed martini bottle to top off this cocktail. It makes for an interesting and unique party. Serve the Martini with shaved strawberries and lemon wedges, or sliced cucumber.

A good Bloody Mary recipe never fails to leave me with a little sip of tequila, some lemon juice, some celery stalks, and maybe a dash of hot sauce. The next time I need a good cocktail, I am sure to make some of these recipes. Happy New Year!
